Continuing in the look at things from "The other side of the Table"
I was invited a little over a year ago to sit in on round table discussions on topics that concern citizens the most. There I met Lorne Kenny, Provincial Liberal Candidate. (now seeking the federal nomination for Simcoe Grey)
Topics ranged for accessibility, housing, food & nutrition, public transit, jobs, income etc.
We got to talking and started to see a common thread in a lot of everyday peoples concerns. That had prompted me to write my post on the radical changes our society is going through. www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2006484269367563&set=a.223939084288766&type=3&theater  As Mr Kenny has been on the political scene for many years, I asked him to weigh in on the subject.
He put it into this short but I think accurate summation:
There is indeed a very strong movement away from the market-based economy on the part of many people. It's one reason we see such growth in local breweries, farmer's markets, local food production companies and so forth. One consequence of globalization has been the skewing of the distribution of income and the rise of the so-called 1%. The only serious countervailing force, aside from individuals opting out, is government, at various levels. That is why I think politics is so important and why we need governments at all three levels which will redress the growing imbalances in favour of the "middle class" or working people or however one wishes to denominate the 99% of us who are not benefiting much from economic growth.
