    Good afternoon/evening Wasaga.

I was questioned recently about my Campaign slogan.
    Sensible
    Affordable
    Sustainable Growth.
“It’s just a few bullet points” they said.
    So let’s have a look.
Sensible would be to fix the leaky roof before you do a kitchen renovation.
Affordable would be to buy a Toyota Camry even though that Lexus is looking real sweet. And then socking away the rest of the money for the kid’s college fund.
Sustainable is having one less take out coffee so you can afford the regular oil changes on that new Camry, and keep it going for 15 years.
How does this Apply To Wasaga Beach?
If we had just put the money, from all our expert studies, towards, say a roofed pavilion at the main beach, we could today, be hosting weddings, fall harvest fairs, spring RV shows, and in the winter pour some ice and have covered skating. Seems sensible?
If we had not decided to put all our eggs in one basket, and spent an estimated $6 million on our new Downtown dreams, we could afford to build a nice new washroom at the main beach, and a few playgrounds in some of our outer subdivisions.
If we worked on constantly improving what we have, and find more efficiencies in our services, we could sustain ourselves, without constant tax increases, for decades to come.
We are very fortunate that some of our earliest Mayors and councilors like Ed Langewin and Walter Borthwick, had the same ideas.
That made this town a very desirable place to live, and resulted in some phenomenal growth.
If we focus on intrinsic growth, instead of urban sprawl, we will be sustainable.
    Thank you for your vote.
